Sail Caribbean has been creating once-in-a-lifetime programs for kids and young adults for over 40 years in the British Virgin Islands and the Leeward Islands. Participants of these programs (also known as “campers”) have the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills and values of sailing while also contributing to community service – learning about marine biology and having the chance to receive scuba dive certifications. Sail Caribbean offers two to three week programs, geared towards campers aged 11 through 18, as well as offering a specific program for college-age students. While living on 40-50′ catamarans or monohulls, campers not only learn the practice of sailing but also how to embrace it as an integral part of their daily routine.
Recruiting exceptional men and women from all backgrounds for their team, Sail Caribbean prides itself on creating a tight-knit community that instills leadership, independence, and adventure. Their summer preparations focus on safety and team training so that, from day one, students are taught the importance of safety on land and at sea as well as how to maintain a clean, healthy environment onboard the boats. The utmost care for their campers is given to ensure that each individual is made to feel comfortable with the overall living on a boat. Beyond sailing, campers will have the opportunity to delve into underwater exploration to learn about environmental practices while visiting mangroves, practicing the art of waterskiing, and embarking on island explorations within the British Virgin Islands or the Leeward Islands.
There is much to learn and discover and Sail Caribbean’s mission is to empower its campers to reach their fullest potential and emerge as leaders in their own lives.

My second year with Sail Caribbean felt super comfortable living on a boat again. You learn how to adapt to a different living environment, especially with the weather, and you learn different aspects of independence like cooking and cleaning.

This trip was above and beyond better than I had imagined. My son learned more about himself and how to interact with others on this trip in addition to all the sailing and fun activities.

Sail Caribbean allowed me to become more adventurous, try new things, and explore the sea. I was able to find my passion for sailing and the water by hands-on and interactive learning. It was one of the best things I have ever experienced in my life.
